DJ Mix Of The Week

So this is a proper club set, Ivan Smagghe b2b Craig Richards. Of course it is.

This party was held at fabric for what would have been Andrew Weatherall’s 60th birthday. Andrew Weatherall was a dance music legend that departed far too soon, apparently an absolute diamond of a person, but also really quite boundary-pushing and interesting when it came to his productions.

Hence there needed to be some of the more interesting DJs on the circuit for this night, of which the Ivan Smagghe b2b Craig Richards is a perfect fit.

The mix starts at a fair clip, electro-tinged tech-house kind of being the vibe, if you don’t mind me calling good music “tech-house” (for tech-house was once very cool back in the 90’s/00’s).

It isn’t the most captivating first hour or so, but it sets the scene – and the Mathew Johnson’s Automaton arrives and the vibe changes, whilst remaining very club-focused, but having more of a sense of fun and adventure.

There’s plenty of other real cool, edgy electro moments – reminiscing of some of the glory days of more electro sounds in the mid 2000’s for those of us of that vintage.

This is a really damn cool mix, superbly put together, and very worthy of celebrating the life of Andrew Weatherall.
