It’s been a while since I featured a pretty unknown DJ, which is kind of one of the original reasons for starting this little blog. So it’s nice to be able to talk about Doudou MD.

Listening to this mix was the first time I’ve heard of Doudou MD – resident at SlapFunk Records and apparently making waves as a DJ in Amsterdam.

I’m wary of bringing up race, but seeing as I have about 3 readers per post, I can probably get away without anyone saying “stick to the music bro” – and all I want to say is how refreshing it is to have someone black DJing minimal techno.

Minimal techno is my favourite music style and has been for approaching 20 years – yet almost every DJ and producer is white – and half are from one single country. How many black minimal techno DJs can you think of? Afriqua, any more? If you are pro-diversity, then having more black people play minimal techno is a must – even if all you care about is greater creativity in music.

Anyway, soapbox put away. And, besides, this mix kind of straddles house music and minimal techno anyway. I realised after around 20 minutes that I was really kind of into the mix, it was really getting into a groove.

There’s some particularly classy tracks either side of Malin Genie’s Troglodyte Party, but the whole hour is an enjoyable journey through minimal-ish house, and if you are like me, you should find yourself rather in the groove.

Enjoyment rating of 7.66.
