There is no kick drum. I repeat, there is no kick drum in this mix from Barac.

It took me a while to realise, as I’m so used to Barac’s tracks and mixes having this supremely hypnotic vitality to them anyway, but this is 2 hours of spiritual bliss within a minimal techno context.

Barac is my favourite DJ. Quite why I’ve only featured him once before on DJ Mix Of The Week, I’m not sure – I often consider his mixes for inclusion but kind of assume I’ve mentioned him too often – I really don’t mention him enough.

Yet this mix is on another level of genius – I do believe that Barac is a rare musical genius, maybe not quite on the level of Villalobos, for he is a unique talent as producer, but he’s definitely on a different level to most in terms of his thought process behind production, and DJing.

The instruction on Soundcloud is “initiation, journey, healing”, and writing this with a fair hangover, I can confirm this seems to help with healing – and I do spend much of this mix singing “chicka chicka chicka chicka chicka chicka cha” to myself in some kind of hypnotic glaze.

Maybe you’ll hate this mix, it might well be quite binary and something some people won’t get – but I think it’s truly excellent – and all Barac’s productions too, I believe.

Enjoyment rating of 8.44. I’ve played this a lot, though I did lie about something – right at the end there is a kick.
